ERP Softwares |
Before the development of ERP softwares, each department within an
organization would usually have its own computer system.
The human resources department, payroll department, and financial
department might have each had their own computer systems.
This made it difficult to integrate data because the systems were
usually from different computer systems and manufacturers.
With the development of ERP softwares, the data of formerly
separate computer applications were combined, thus simplifying the
storage of data across the business while reducing the number of
softwares needed within a larger business.
Advantages of ERP softwares include eliminating the need for many
softwares that do not talk to each other and do not interface with each
other. ERP softwares offer
the opportunity to store all data on one application and allow different
business functions such as how to make the best product, order tracking,
revenue cycle, bill of materials, and accounting for all tasks to be
accessed within one system.
ERP softwares also enhance matching what was ordered, what arrived, and
what was invoiced by the vendor.
Every system has its flaws.
Disadvantages of ERP softwares are usually due to an inadequate
investment on the part of the business to provide ongoing training for
personnel, as well as a lack of policy protecting the data and deciding
how the data will be used.
ERP softwares can be very expensive because they are complex and can
impose significant changes on staff work practices.
Resistance from within a business with different departments
being reluctant to share information can reduce also the effectiveness
of ERP softwares. |

ERP is an abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning.
ERP softwares are designed to integrate all the resources,
information, and activities needed to complete all business processes
such as billing, payroll, or billing.
For consideration as ERP softwares, the package must perform the
function of at least two systems.
There are distinct advantages and disadvantages to using ERP
softwares.
ERP softwares maintain data needed for a variety of business functions
in a single database. These
data include, but are not limited to, manufacturing, supply chain
management, finances, projects, human resources, and customer relations.
The common database of ERP softwares allows every department of a
business to store and retrieve information that is reliable, accessible,
and easily shared.
